Mildred Marie (Britten) Hintz, age 102, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, March 26, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. The Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mildred was born March 1, 1910 in Marshfield, the first of nine children born to Martin and Ida (Rekow) Britten. She started school at St. John’s School in Marshfield and finished 8th grade, in a one-room schoolhouse, in the town of Green Valley. On February 20, 1928, in the town of Green Valley, she was united in marriage to Theodore (Ted) Hintz. Shortly after their marriage they took in 7 of Mildred’s brothers and sisters, which they raised as their own.
She did the cooking in Ted’s Tavern which was built by Ted and his brother Herman. When the depression hit they sold out to Herman. Mildred followed Ted, as he worked for the WPA, in the Ironwood Hurley area, then in Stevens Point and finally moving to Marshfield when his work ended.
Mildred’s first job, in Marshfield, was at the Coffee Cup Cafe, then to Johnson Glove Factory and when WW II came she went to Roddis where she inspected panels that were used to make airplane wings. She retired from there in 1972 and then took a part time job, in house keeping, with the Marshfield Clinic from where she retired in 1991 when they wanted her to move to another area.
Mildred was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield. She was very active in the churches’ Ladies’ Aide, Altar Guild, and cooked for many occasions. She was gifted in many form of handy work. She loved to crochet, knit. At age 65 she took up golfing. Her family was the joy of her life. With distance and then age, the phone was her life line to family and friends, all received that weekly and sometimes daily call. Those that knew her will miss her warm giving spirit.
Mildred is lovingly survived by her children, Arla Mae (Richard) Weister and Sharon (Virgil) Tyrolt both of Marshfield; Grandchildren, Vicky (Terry) Steinmann, Wm (Carey) Weister, Jennifer (Christopher) Castle and Daniel Tyrolt; Great Grandchildren; Heidi and Kyle Steinmann, Clayton and Tabitha Weister and Sarah and Charles Castle.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Ted; parents Martin and Ida; infant son Ralph ; 2 grandchildren Mitchell and David Lucas; brothers; Robert, Lester, Wm and Donald; sisters; Evelyn Hill, Dorothy Aschebrock, Verna O’Brien and Edith Pokrant.
Memorials maybe given to Faith Lutheran Church.
