Sherry L. (Larson) Masephol

Sherry L. Masephol, age 62, of Marshfield, passed away on Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at the Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She had battled cancer since 2016.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 E. Veterans Parkway in Marshfield, with the Rev. Andi Wolf officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. 

Sherry was born on June 13, 1958, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Daryl and Patricia (Stoffregen) Larson. Her parents moved to a farm in Pittsville, Wisconsin, in March of 1959. She attended Pittsville Elementary School, except for a short time when her parents moved to Nekoosa. Her parents then moved back to Pittsville and she resumed school there, graduating from Pittsville High School in May of 1976. While in school, she was in many groups, including Pleasant Corners 4-H, band, cheerleading, National Honor Society, track, ski club and forensics. After graduation, she attended UW-Stevens Point for two years.

She then started her work career, beginning as a clerk typist – floating at the Wood County Courthouse in Feb. of 1979 and becoming a full-time secretary in the District Attorney’s Office, working there for five years.

Sherry was then hired as the Deputy Register in Probate and worked with Rachael Justesen (the Register in Probate) for three years. After Ms. Justesen’s retirement in 1987, Sherry was appointed as Register in Probate by the Wood County Judges. She faithfully served as Register in Probate for 30 years, retiring in March of 2017. She truly loved her job and considered the people she worked with as her extended family. As Register in Probate, Sherry served as Vice President and President of the State Association. She was also very active on the State Forms Committee for 10 years.

She was united in marriage to Jerold E. Masephol on Aug. 21, 1982, at the UCC Church in Pittsville. They divorced in 1989, but got back together in 1991 and remarried on July 3, 1997. Together, they had one son, Nick. They lived in Pittsville until April of 2017, then they moved to Central, Alaska.

Sherry loved her family and the Masephol family; and loved going to family outings and family trips. Her relatives lived in Iowa and Minnesota, so there were plenty of family trips. While her son, Nick, was in school, she loved attending all of his sporting activities. She always enjoyed helping her husband, Jerry, with Pittsville Lions’ activities and attending his music festivals when he and Cliff Abbott played music as Sons of the One. She loved reading and playing golf for fun with husband Jerry and son Nick.

Her big adventure was moving to Central, Alaska, in May of 2017 to satisfy her husband Jerry’s dream. While there, she got attached to a very dear group of Church friends that took good care of her. Unfortunately, Jerry died in Alaska in 2019 and she decided to move back to Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Sherry’s legacy was to “put others first.” She loved her dogs and almost always had one at home, her last dog being her bichon, Trouper.

She is survived by her son: Nick (Amanda) Masephol of Eau Claire; her mother: Patricia Larson of Marshfield; her brother: Scott (Kori) Larson of Pittsville; uncle: James Starkey of Nisswa, Minnesota; nieces: Ashley Larson of Pittsville and Kayla Larson of LaCrosse; as well as a cousin: Janet (Andrea) Stoffregen of Lakeville, Minnesota.

Sherry is further survived by the following in-laws: James (Karleen) Masephol of Phillips, Ellen (Stan) Czlapinski of Pittsville, Dave (Annette King) Masephol of Circle, Alaska, Jeff (Sue) Masephol of Pittsville, John (Sarah) Masephol of Auburndale, along with cousins, nieces, nephews and several close friends.

In addition to her husband: Jerold, she was preceded in death by father: Daryl Larson; mother-and-father-in-law: Betty and Albert Masephol; grandparents: Edwin and Mina Stoffregen; her beloved aunt: Laura Starkey and uncle: Charles Stoffregen of Northwood, Iowa.
