Alonzo John Officer, age 85, passed away early morning May 25, 2024, at Stoney River in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at North Ridge Church, 1021 West McMillan Street, in Marshfield, WI. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Brooklawn Memory Gardens.
Lon was born June 9, 1938, the son of Joseph and Mary Officer in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago in 1957. Lon was employed by a family printing company from 1957 - 1960. He enlisted in the Army from 1960 - 1963. While in the Army, he was stationed in Germany for one year.
After the service, he returned home to Chicago, where he met the love of his life, Ardis Krohn, at Addison Street Baptist Church. They were united in marriage on October 28, 1967, in Medford, WI.
Lon and Ardis lived in Chicago for several years. They resided in an apartment three blocks away from Wrigley Field and attended lots of Cubs games!
They were blessed with two children, Kurt and Kim. In 1975, the family relocated to Wisconsin to be closer to the Krohn family.
Lon was employed at the Marshfield Clinic for over 35 years, working as a nighttime custodian.
He was most well-known for his appreciation of classical music, playing the piano at church or wherever he could tickle the ivory keys with a little Bach or Beethoven.
Lon was also passionate about baseball and football. Some of his favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs.
Those who knew Lon will remember him for his kind spirit and love of conversation. Lon also had an impeccable memory of directions. If you were ever lost, you knew who to call. He could tell you how to get from point A to point B just about anywhere in the United States. Every year, Kurt or Kim would buy him a new atlas to study. The family is deeply saddened at the loss of such a great dad, father-in-law, brother, and grandpa.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tami Kobs, for stepping in to help with his care when we couldn’t; and to Stoney River Staff and all the other residents and family members for visiting with him and taking good care of him.
Lon is lovingly survived by his son, Kurt (Katie) Officer; his daughter, Kim (Jason) Schultz; his sister, Regina (Tim) Clay; brother, Jerry Officer; and his grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey, Jared and JJ Schultz.
Lon is reunited with those who passed before him who include his beloved wife, Ardis Officer; and his parents, Joseph and Mary Officer; along with many relatives and friends.
