Amy Michelle Zais, of Marshfield passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Stoney River in Marshfield at age 54 after a seven-year battle with cancer.
Amy, the daughter of Donald and Lynette Zais, was born on May 16, 1968, and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1986. She had many early career experiences in restaurant management, graphics prepress, and computer tech support before finding her calling in education. She was a much-beloved special education teacher in the Wausau school district before ending her 25+ year education career as the assistant principal at Eau Claire North High School. Amy had a special relationship to her students, understanding how to motivate them and get the best from them, regardless of their circumstances.
Amy’s true passion, however, was being a Professional Aunt to her nephew, nieces, and grand nephews. She was a wonderful friend, supporter, encourager, and tremendous spoiler to all of them from birth through college and beyond. She was also the chief organizer for most family events.
After her retirement from teaching, Amy devoted her time to volunteer activities such as Habitat for Humanity and Soup or Socks food pantry and clothes closet in Marshfield.
Amy is survived by her father and mother, Donald and Lynette Zais of Marshfield, and her brothers Kevin Zais of Spencer and Brian Zais of Excelsior, MN, as well as their families.
Amy will be cremated with her ashes interred in the columbarium at First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield. A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 200 South Lincoln Avenue, Marshfield, on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour before the time of service at the church.
