Betty Yerke Obituary

Betty A. Yerke, age 94, of Arpin, passed away early Monday, January 15, 2024, at her home.  A Funeral/Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m., a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a meal to follow.  A private burial service will be held at the Arpin Cemetery at a later date.

Betty was born February 20, 1929, to Alvin and Flora (Ellis) Nelson. She was a graduate of Pittsville High School and Wood County Teachers College. Betty married Eugene Yerke on January 9, 1954, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Eugene died on December 22, 1990.

Betty was a teacher for 30 years, teaching in one-room schools, 8th grade, 5th grade, Chapter 1 and the last 15 years in kindergarten. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arpin. She served as Town Treasurer and Town of Arpin Cemetery Administrator for many years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, playing games/cards, baking and spending time with family and friends.  

Betty is survived by her children: David (Barb) Yerke of Portage, Steve (Deb) Yerke of Pittsville, Mark (Betty) Yerke of Arpin, and Carol (Greg) Willfahrt of Arpin. She is further survived by grandchildren: Michelle (Cory) Miller, Terri (Colin) Meisel, Adam (Nikki) Yerke, Angie Yerke, Andrew (Sarah) Yerke, Katelyn (Collin) Frankwick, Rebecca (Ryan) Morse, John Yerke and Nathan Yerke; and great-grandchildren: Lily, Brook, Taylor, Owen, Harper, Hudson, Dawson, Crew, Sawyer, Eliza and Athena. She is further survived by her siblings: Judy Huber and Larry (Linda) Nelson; and sister-in-law: Freda Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her siblings: Phyllis Paitel and Jim Nelson; brothers-in-law: Don Huber, Clarence Paitel and Robert Collins; and sister-in-law Grace Collins.

The family would like to express a special thank-you to St. Croix Hospice, extended family and friends for the exceptional support provided.
