David A. Thomas age 72, Marshfield, WI, went to his eternal place of rest on Sunday, January 7th, 2024.
David was a thoughtful, loving father, and friend with a generous heart. Early mornings were his favorite time of day to think, dream, and reflect. He would drink coffee and complete crossword puzzles before the rest of the world woke up. David was smart and clever with an entrepreneurial talent, owning and operating several small businesses during his life.
He played croquet, goofy golf, pinochle, and crazy 8’s with mischievous expertise. He won the family pinochle tournament three years in a row, and taught his kids the fine art of playing pinochle. Whenever he would win, usually by luck and a touch of skill, he’d say, “that’s because you just have to live right.”
His kids remember growing up how he hid Christmas presents like a game of clue. Each clue leading you to a place far away so he could setup the next. He was known for talking like Donald Duck and would do so especially if he thought you needed a smile or laugh. David had a sarcastic sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks; he would even short-sheet his own mom, tie pull-pop firecrackers to the doors, and would wear masks to sneak up on you. All in good fun.
At one family gathering, he wore a fake set of glasses with a “private” shaped nose while carrying the lunch donation bucket asking for help to fund a much-needed nose job. We have a picture of the nose gag, but you will need to use your imagination. We know there are plenty more stories like this. Please feel free to share your stories below.
David is survived by his children: Ronald Thomas (Janelle) Mosinee, WI, David Thomas, Grafton, WI, and April Thomas, Yorktown, VA; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren; his significant other, Janet Rottscheit, and her children and grandchildren. Sisters: Vicki (Jerry) Price, Mariposa, CA, and Judy (Brent) Tuthill, Hendersonville, NC; and brothers: Randy Thomas, Neillsville, WI, and Larry Thomas, Sturgis, South Dakota. He is predeceased by parents, Arlene and Frank Thomas; twin sister, Jennifer Scott; and granddaughter, Kaytlyn Thomas.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Holiday Inn & Convention Center in Marshfield.
