Deloris "Dee" Genteman Obituary

Deloris Madelyn “Dee” Genteman, 96, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully at the House of the Dove, surrounded by her family, on Sep. 18, 2025.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 29, 2025, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Pkwy. in Marshfield). Pastor Chris Schwanz will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1928, at home in Clark County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Albert “Pete” Miller and Mildred (King) Miller.

Dee was the oldest of nine children. She attended the country school named Hillside near Neillsville and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1946.

While in high school, Dee helped care for her brother, Donald, who was permanently disabled due to a shooting incident while deer hunting.

Dee enrolled in a nine-month course at the Accredited School of Beauty Culture in Eau Claire. She was then employed as a beautician at Neillsville beauty parlors, and briefly as a cashier at the Farmer’s Store.

Deloris married John Gentemen in December of 1956 and moved to Marshfield for John’s employment. They started a family and raised three children.

While at home, Dee would also babysit the neighborhood children. Later, she worked at J.C. Penney in the catalog department, but found her real enjoyment serving ice cream treats to children and adults while working in the dairy bar at Clover Cream Dairy. After the dairy closed, she was offered a position in the lab, testing milk. The company later became Beatrice Cheese, and Deloris continued working there until the age of 62.

Dee enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Many weekends were spent taking Sunday drives to visit relatives or taking in events around the state. Summer vacations and retirement allowed her to take longer trips around the country, including a Caribbean cruise for their anniversary. She enjoyed dining at restaurants, visiting casinos, watching TV, and being entertained by her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, David Genteman; grandchildren, Stephanie Betlinski (Jason), Nicholas Cox (Candice), Jacob Dix (Tina), Jered Dix, and Justin Dix (Krissy); great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by her daughters, Pamela Cox (Steven), and Lisa Dix (Brian); siblings, Donald Miller, Albert L. Miller (Nancy), Duane “Joe” Miller (Dorothy), Barbara Oldham (Walter “Bunny”), Patricia Hagen (Jesse), Judy Grap (Lewis), Bruce Miller (Norma), and Sandra Kolano (Kasimar “Bish”).

A special thank-you to Tina Dix for helping care for Deloris.
