Donald (Donnie as most knew him by) was born April 10, 1937, the oldest out of 5 children, to Rachel (Corey) and James H. Kieffer. He was a graduate of Auburndale High School and after enlisted in the army. Donnie will always be remembered for his kind heart and passion for music. Donnie had a gift of playing multiple instruments, most notably the saxophone and keyboard. He was known to be able to play by ear with no sheet music. When he could no longer play in the later years, he thoroughly enjoyed listening to “his” band- the Good Tymes. (thank you Wayne and Tom).
Donnie is lovingly, survived by his children: Paul McEwen of Eagle River, AK, Dawn (Mark) Reigel of Marshfield, WI, and Shawn (Kristy) Kieffer of Spencer, WI. He is further survived by grandsons: Dylan (Renee) Boden, Derrick Brost, Nathan and Braeden Kieffer, and Aiden and Kyle McEwen; great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Violet, and Lucy; siblings: Tom Kieffer, Crimora, VA and Suzanne (Jerome) Pankratz of Auburndale, WI; sisters-in-law: Margie Kieffer and Soon-Hui Kieffer, as well as other relatives and friends.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Bill and Jimmy, and sister-in-law Gail.
The family wishes to thank Colonial Nursing Home for taking care of our dad, grandpa, and great grandpa over the past few years.
Those wishing to express their sympathy are encouraged to bring plenty of stories and memories to share. Memorials may be given in Donnie’s memory to a charity of your choice, Auburndale School District Music Department or Colonial Nursing Home, Colby, WI for entertainment.
Do Not Weep for Me My Friend
Do not weep for me my friend and never shed a tear,
Be glad to wear a smile and let your sorrow disappear.
Think only of the good times and the laughter we did share,
No reason to feel sadness now, no cause to feel despair.
Please cherish every memory, spare a thought for me each day,
And keep a place within your heart, where I can always stay.
