Douglas McCanna Obituary

Douglas James “Doug” McCanna, age 65, of Plover, Wisconsin, has sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, while at home surrounded by loved ones - cousin Stacy Haver, partner Donna Collins, and daughter Stacy Collins.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Doug’s honor on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Grand Rapids Lions Club (2411 36th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids).

Doug was born on October 27, 1959, the youngest son of Clifton Sr. and Katherine (Glenn) McCanna in New Bethlem, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Union High School in 1978. He, by luck, found the love of his life, Donna, in 1987 while bartending at the Big Moon Saloon in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Doug had a passion for collecting knives and was a life member of the North American Hunting Club.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family- especially his grandkids, cookouts and four-wheeling. He also loved traveling to and hunting in Pennsylvania with his best friend, Scott. Those who knew Doug best will miss his company, hunting stories, and his love for shooting pool league on Tuesdays at Ambrosia’s in Amherst, Wisconsin.

Doug is lovingly survived by the love of his life, Donna Collins; five daughters, Tracy (Lon) Shaw, Dawn Collins, Stacy Collins (Brian Hephner), Melissa (Ted) Cobbett, and Laurie McCanna; eight grandsons, Bret, Braydon, Jace, Wyatt, Carson, Blake, Dylan, and Chase; seven granddaughters, Kelci, Ryleigh, Genevieve, Elise, Meghan (Jared) Morgan (Josh), and Camrya; five great-grandchildren; nephews; nieces; cousins; and many more friends and relatives. He is further survived by his mother, Katherine; brother, Larrie McCanna; and his dog, Willow.

Doug is preceded in death by his father, Clifton McCanna Sr.; brother, Clifton McCanna Jr.; nephew, Christopher McCanna; also, Donna’s family members: Shirley Higgins, Ken Higgins, Mary Mullins; his best friend, Brett Hooks; and, his favorite fur babies, Keyo and Wolfman.

The family extends a thank-you to all of Doug’s nurses at Aspirus Stevens Point Cancer Center for helping him fight, and caring about him. A huge thank-you to Compassus Hospice for everything - not only for Doug, but for the family members who cared for him in his final days. A very special thank-you to Pete Jacoby of Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home for everything.
