On Sunday, November 13, 2022, Steven Alan Lamberson, under the weight of depression, ended his life.
Steven was born in San Diego, CA on August 12, 1953, to Don and Virginia Lamberson. From a young age, Steven longed to serve others as a physician. He graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA and obtained his MD from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1983. Steve proudly served as a physician in the Marshfield Clinic Health System from 1986 until his retirement in 2016. Since then, he has continued to serve part time with MCHS until recently. Although never a fan of all the paperwork, he always loved helping people alongside his valued colleagues.
Steve’s partner in life was, his love, Shirley Lamberson. Steven would say that he was never the best at love but all that he had, he gave to her, and her alone. Steve and Shirley met in Evergreen Park, IL when Shirley was a freshman in college and Steve was a senior in high school. The two met during the summer while attending Bethel Bible Church. Steve wooed Shirley by writing her letters while she was away at Multnomah University in Portland, OR. Shirley first noticed Steve’s affection for her when she was unable to afford the flight ticket home for the holidays, so Steve purchased the ticket for her. The two fell in love and were married at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. Although the wedding was supposed to take place at Bethel Bible Church, Steve had a medical emergency which forced the wedding to take place while Steve was still in the hospital.
Steve and Shirley have been committed followers of Jesus Christ, as members of Cornerstone Community Church in Marshfield, WI since 1999 when it was just a few families gathering for a Bible study. Through the years, both Steve and Shirley have loved to serve people through the church in various roles. Over the past few years, Steve’s anxiety and depression had forced him to step away from much of this service, but his legacy of faithful love and generosity will not be easily forgotten.
Steven has been reunited in heaven with his parents, Don and Virginia Lamberson. Steve is survived by his faithful and loving wife Shirley, his children: John and Cori Lamberson, Paul and Jill Lamberson, Debbie and Jens Douglas, and Mary and Christopher Wik. Steve was overflowing in expressing his love and pride for all his children, their spouses, and his seven wonderful grandchildren. Steven is also survived by his brothers, Dave and Nancy Lamberson and Jon and Karin Lamberson.
The shock of Steve’s death is a consuming shadow, but he will be remembered for the bright light of his love, strength, charity, patience, wisdom, and so much more.
Visitation for Steve will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Community Church, 1417 West McMillan Street, Marshfield. Memorial services will be held at Cornerstone Community Church the following day, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Andrew Kvernen officiating. There will be no visitation before the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the Lamberson family would ask that you donate to the Cornerstone Community Church Benevolence fund, so the church can continue to provide spiritual, physical, and emotional support to those in need.
