Eleanor Verna (Bandt) Griep

Eleanor Verna (Bandt) Griep, age 91, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 29, 2022, at the House of the Dove where she had resided since March.  A funeral will be held at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield, WI on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Hyeok Won Kwon from Zion United Methodist Church will officiate.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service at the funeral home.  Eleanor will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery at a later date.

Eleanor was born on October 14, 1930, the daughter of Ervin and Ermine (Happe) Bandt in Chili, WI.  She attended school in Neillsville.  She moved to Marshfield in 1946.  She met Raymond Griep when she was five years old and married him on February 7, 1953. 

Eleanor worked several different jobs, starting at Sexton Drug Store; Adler Bakery, her father’s Root Beer Stand, “Erv’s”, Weinbrenner Shoe Factory, cooked and waitressed at the Colonial Inn, worked at Figi’s and lastly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Dietary Department.  She played softball on the Shoe Factory Team and bowled for that team as well.   

She thoroughly enjoyed camping and was an officer for the Good Sam Motorhome Club and served as President of Marshlanders Winnebago Club.  She was a long-term member of Zion United Methodist Church dating back to an original member of Evangelical United Brethren Church.  Cooking was her passion making many wedding cakes and making pies for the VFW fair booth. Eleanor also enjoyed entertaining, playing cards, playing scrabble every night after supper for which no one else could ever win.  She also was an avid seamstress.  

Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Tim) Smith, Marshfield, WI, Debora Walsh, Pittsville, WI, Laurie (David) Kremer, Marshfield, WI, Teresa (Jeff) Hederer, Stafford, VA and one son, Rick (Mary) Griep, Marshfield, WI.   She has 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Griep on July 22, 2019, her parents and all of her siblings.
