Emilie Meier

Emilie Meier passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on June 2, 2024, at Wells Nature View in Marshfield, WI.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 E. Veterans Pkwy, Marshfield, WI. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Alma Memorial Cemetery, in Alma, WI on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11:00 A.M.

Emilie was born in Winona, MN on November 4, 1936, to William and Lillian (Tarras) Shur.  She graduated from Healy Memorial High School and  went on to obtain her teaching degree from the Teachers College.  On June 11, 1960 Emilie married the love of her life, Odell Meier, in Winona, Minnesota. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage until Odell’s death on March 2, 1996.   

She began her career in education in a small school in Education District #6 in Pepin County.  She joined the School District of Auburndale in 1962 as a classroom teacher and later became the school librarian and A.V. Coordinator. Within this time she influenced the grammar and composition skills of countless students.  Emilie became the Librarian for the District and maintained and categorized all educational materials.  She knew the location of all research, fiction and non-fiction materials and could retrieve them instantly. After 41 years in the education field she retired.  She enjoyed vacationing, trips to the casino, both near and far. garage sales, decorating her home and yard for every season, and shopping.

Emilie is survived by her little canine companions; Sadie and Chrissy, many close friends and neighbors. and her nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her special dogs; Suzie, Katie and Angel.
