Ethel M. Legge, age 71 of Auburndale, peacefully entered eternal life with her family by her side on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Three Oaks Golden Living Center in Marshfield. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield with the Rev Tricia Turner officiating. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, March 23 at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield and from 10:00 AM until time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield. Ethel was born November 24, 1939 in St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Neal and Jeanette (Gerber) Sturgis. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1957 and worked as a secretary at Northern States Power Company. On August 22, 1964, Ethel was united in marriage to James Legge in Eau Claire. Together they raised two daughters, Lisa and Dawn. She started a child care center in her home in 1982 until 1987. Ethel then worked for the Wausau School District for 12 years, first in the library and then as a special education aide, retiring in 1999 due to health concerns. Ethel was a loving mother and wife who enjoyed sewing, crafts, music and bowling. Ethel is lovingly survived by her husband, Jim; her daughters, Lisa (Dan) Olson, Hartford and Dawn (Vern) Anderson, Thorp, four grandchildren, Kiley, Brady, Matthew and Kyle. She is further survived by three siblings, Rev. Larry (Anita) Sturgis, Bruce, WI, George (Eileen) Sturgis, Eau Claire and Elaine Sturgis, Platteville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will truly be missed. Besides her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jodean Randen. The family requests memorials to go to the Alzheimer's Association or Faith Lutheran Church.
