Floyd Hitchcock Jr., aged 92, passed away early on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI. A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Community Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 6. Visitation hours are from 9:00–11:00, prior to the service. He will be buried at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.
Floyd was born in Akron, NY on June 9, 1931, to Floyd Hitchcock Sr. and Iva (Cook) Hitchcock. He spent much of his younger years making deliveries for his father’s meat and grocery store, hunting and trapping with his coonhound, Belle, and spending time with his younger brother, Gerald. After graduating from Akron High School, he married his teenage sweetheart, Yvonne (Von) Moorhouse on August 25, 1951. They would celebrate their 73rd anniversary this year.
He was an army veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a draftsman and attained the rank of sergeant. Following his discharge, he entered Cornell University, where he received his DVM. For decades, he and his wife owned and operated Newstead Animal Hospital, near Akron, where his compassionate attention saved the lives of countless animals and provided a service to his local community. He and his wife also raised three children.
After retiring, Floyd and Yvonne moved across the country to be nearer to their children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always ready to offer his kind presence or bring his tools to fix a problem.
He was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Marshfield, where for many years he taught a children’s Sunday school class with his wife. He was a faithful follower of Christ and a sincere encourager to many.
Floyd is lovingly survived by his wife, Yvonne, and three children: Tom (Jeri) Hitchcock of Marshfield, Debbie Linville of Marshfield, Lauri (David) Boldt of Verona. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Jason; Jonathan; Joel; Jeff; Lorena; Hannah; Julie; and Ben. Finally, he is survived by six great-grandchildren (with another on the way). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gerald and Doris.
The family wishes to thank the loving services of Compassus.
