Gary Witt Obituary

Gary M. “Buck” Witt Sr., aged 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 28th, at Colonial Health & Rehabilitation in Colby.

Buck was born to Catherine M. Witt on August 9th, 1935, in Marshfield, WI. He graduated Marshfield High School in 1953 and served in the United States Marines for a short time. Buck married Ellen M. Marg on November 5, 1955. Buck mainly worked in construction during his earlier years. He moved his family across the country to Washington and Las Vegas for a short time. He retired from Figi’s as a security guard in 2009. Buck’s passion in life was being outdoors hunting and fishing. He and Ellen owned a cabin in Perkinstown, WI, for 20 years. He made many memories at the hunting cabin his children and grandchildren still talk about today. Buck’s biggest passion in life was fishing. Any chance Buck got, he was in the boat. He instilled his love of fishing in his wife, children, and grandchildren. His children were at the bottom of the boat literally a few days after being born. Buck could not get enough fishing. He made many trips to Canada, North Dakota, and Hurley with his family. Thousands of fish were caught and priceless memories made.

Buck is survived by his wonderful wife of 69 years, Ellen of Marshfield; daughters, Cindy Witt of Marshfield, Lisa Pongratz of Stratford, Sherri Witt (Jay Wagner) of Marshfield; grandchildren, Jeremy (Shari) Witt of Aprin, Jesse Emon of Marshfield, Josh (Mandy) Witt of Marshfield, Tiffany (Greg) Redner of Texas, Ashley (Daniel) Masephol of Stratford, Dakota (Jennifer) Pongratz of Plover; and many wonderful great-grandchildren. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Sharon Witt of Marshfield; sisters-in-law, Diane Carlson of Wessington Springs, SD, Shirley Marg of Crystal River, FL, and Barbara Marg of Milwaukee.

Buck is preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Witt; son, Gary M. Witt Jr.; son-in-law, Carl R. Pongratz Jr.; uncles, Henry and Milton Witt; aunts, Henrietta and Marie Witt; sisters-in-law, Angie Dux, Marian Geason; brothers-in-law, Gerald Marg, Verlon Marg, Ken Geason, Everett Dux, and Larry Carlson; mother and father-in-law: Hertha and Frank Marg.

There will be no service. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
