Gene R. Breu, age 86, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully early on January 28, 2026, at the House of the Dove surrounded by family and friends.
Gene was born on September 24, 1939. The son of Anton and Teresa Breu. He was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1957, and worked at Felker Brother’s most of his life as a welder and a truck driver. He always enjoyed the annual reunions.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He loved the camaraderie of hunting, getting a 9-point buck in 2023. But fishing has always been his favorite hobby. He went fishing to Canada more than 30 times. He knew where the fish were biting and often joked that he needed to have a family fish fry to keep him legal.
Gene took great pride in his garden, growing enough food for all to enjoy. He loved reading and learning, and could fix anything and thrived on the challenge of figuring out how things worked. He was “old school” so that often required him to go to the library to check out a book or manual to help.
Gene is survived by six children: his daughters, Carla Breu, Kim (Mike) Badzinski, Rhonda (Craig) Kuhl, and Renee (Steve)Fuerlinger; and sons, Jeff (Sharyl) Breu and Mike (Chrissy) Breu. Along with ten grandchildren: Lisa (Jon) Zimmerman, Erik Netz, Hannah (Pierce) Luker, Ethan (Stephanie) Badzinski, Steven Kuhl, Jessie Kuhl, Sami Kuhl, Tyler Fuerlinger, and Bryce Fuerlinger. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Alex, Ari, Sadie, Arlo, Owen, Kolton, Kashton, and Knoxtyn.
Gene enjoyed the simple things in life, living life to the fullest.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
