Gilbert John "Jack" Schelling, age 87, of Marshfield, peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Miller Alternative Care in Marshfield under the tender care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Calvary Bible Church in Marshfield with the Rev Rich Jensen officiating. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 AM until time of services Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield is assisting the family with arrangements. Gilbert was born April 16, 1924 to Roy Henry and Muriel Frances (Heller) Schelling in Roscoe, IL. In 1928, he moved with his parents to a farm near Pittsville, WI. On August 6, 1948, he married the former Iva Martha Smith at Elm Stump Methodist Church in Cortland, New York. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2008. Iva died on October 29 of that year. A farmer all his life, Gilbert was hard-working and always managed wisely what God had given him. The couple farmed at Klondike Corners and later in the Chili area. They retired and sold their farm, moving to Marshfield about 25 years ago. They enjoyed going on group bus tours together to different parts of the country, and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Schelling was a member of Calvary Bible Church, which was the former Bible Center, and had served as a deacon on the church board. He loved antiques, going to auctions and working in his yard and garden. Gilbert is lovingly survived by his children, Lynda (Roger) Hansen of Marshfield, Ronne Schelling of Marshfield and Connie (George) Koopman of Chili; a brother, Gordon Roy (Mavis) Schelling of Cottonwood, AZ; a brother-in-law, Abe Congdon of Groton, NY and a brother-in-law, Delmont (Jeannette) Smith of Palm Coast, FL. He is further survived by six grandchildren, Ryan (Zurica) Hansen of Jamestown, RI, Kirk (Brenda) Hansen of Marshfield, Nicole (Mike) Lutz of Vesper, Lisa (Cliff) Hansen of Marshfield, Kristi (Jeremy) Ely of Auburndale and Robin (Jamie) Binder of Loyal; six great-grandchildren, Abigail Koopman, Aaron and Carter Hansen, Clifford and Sophia Hansen and Trinity Ely. In addition to his wife and parents, He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Schelling, two sisters in infancy, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Congdon. Thank you to the staff of Miller Alternative Care, St. Joseph's Palliative Care, Marshfield Care Center, Marshfield Clinic Dialysis Center, Rev Rich Jensen and the many friends and family for their loving support and prayers. Memorials may be given to Calvary Bible Church.
