Giles A. Thieme, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 23, 2021 at his home in Marshfield. His memorial service will be held 11:00am on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield with Deacon Ray Draeger presiding. Visitation will be from 9am until the time of service at the funeral home on Monday. American Legion Post 54 will conduct Military Honors at the funeral home at the conclusion of the service, followed by family and friends coming together for a luncheon to celebrate Giles life.
Giles was born on November 10, 1940 to Harry and Louise Thieme in Marshfield. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High. On November 3, 1973 he was united in marriage to Cathie Kolb at St. Michael’s Church in Hewitt.
He was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, showing his commitment to his faith by serving as a lector and Eucharistic minister for many years.
Giles was formerly employed with Miracle Ear of Marshfield for 17 years, followed by Mittens Furniture and Appliance until his retirement in 2016. Giles wasn’t ready to give up his love for sales and chatting with people, so he continued working part-time for Custom Wood Products until his time of death.
Giles was a sport enthusiast, always watching his Wisconsin teams. He especially enjoyed cheering on his son-in-law who played 10 years for the NY Giants. Giles and Cathie were honored to attend Super Bowl 42 with their family and to celebrate a Super Bowl win seeing the Giants beat the Patriots. In his leisure time, Giles enjoyed watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune. Together with his wife, they enjoyed listening to and singing country music, he was always told that he had a great singing voice. In his younger years, Giles enjoyed days on the golf course, some softball and bowling in Marshfield leagues.
Giles is survived by his loving wife: Cathie of 48 years; their children: Jenny (Gaelba) Jirschele, and Jodi (Rich) Seubert; five grandchildren: Carsten, Hunter, Isaac, Hailey and Kaeson; brother: Duaine, and sister: Valerie; as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Giles was preceded in death by son: Jamie Paul at birth; his parents: Harry and Louise Thieme; brother: Jerome Thieme; Mother-In-Law: Grace Kolb; Sister and Brother-In-Law: Roger and Marianna Gennett; as well as Brother-In-Law: Dennis and Vernon Kolb.
Leaving lasting footprints in the lives and hearts of many who knew him. His gentleness and kind nature are some of his greatest qualities that so many saw in him and will hold close for years to come.
