Helen Lohrenz Obituary

Helen Lucille Lohrenz (Apollo), of Marshfield, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the House of the Dove Hospice. She was 94.

She was born to parents J. Otto and Elsie P. Apollo (Miller), July 29, 1926 in Fredonia, Kansas. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1947 and earned a degree as a registered nurse from Bethany School of Nursing in 1947. She was the last surviving sibling of her family, having been predeceased by sister Wilma Clarke, and brothers William, Wayne, and Calvin Apollo.

She met her husband, Dr. Francis Nick Lohrenz, while working as a nurse and they wedded on August 12, 1948 in Fredonia. Helen joined Francis in the Philippines during the Korean War, where he served as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Force. They eventually settled in Marshfield in 1959, where Francis joined the Marshfield Clinic. Helen was predeceased by Francis on August 11, 1976.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter Susan Rennane and husband Rabah; son Steven Lohrenz and wife Maura Lohrenz (Connor); and grandchildren Alisa Lahey (Rennane) and husband Jim, Stephanie Rennane and husband Brian Hewlett, Erin Lohrenz, and Ryan Lohrenz. Helen also leaves two great-grandchildren, Alexandra Lahey and Joanna Hewlett. She was a devoted caregiver to her grandchildren, and she relocated to the Milwaukee area and later to Slidell, Louisiana to be close to them during their formative years.  She loved receiving news about her nieces and nephews and their families as well as news from extended family on the Miller, Apollo, Hiebert and Lohrenz sides of the family.

Helen eventually returned to Marshfield, where she had maintained her ties with many close friends, as well as making new ones. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Chapter CL in Marshfield and Chapter AY in Slidell, Louisiana. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Women. She regularly volunteered at the New Visions Gallery and the SOS Food Pantry.
