Irene Bomback Obituary

Irene S Bomback, age 97, of Greenwood, entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 9, 2021, surrounded by her children at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Pastor Elizabeth Bier will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood.

Irene was born October 30, 1924, the daughter of Benhart Severson and Helen Moe in Blanchardville, Wisconsin, and moved to Greenwood at the age of 4. She was educated in the Greenwood Schools.

On March 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Edward P Bomback, in Neillsville Wisconsin. Her husband was drafted into WWII during the first few years of their marriage. She was employed at a catalog factory in Chicago and Cutler & Hammer Co. in Milwaukee for several years before they moved to the family farm in Willard, Wisconsin, in July of 1954 where they farmed until 1973.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and belonged to E.L.C.A. and the quilting group. She did home care work for the elderly in her community. She was a great cook and worked hard on the farm raising 4 children. When family would stop by, she never hesitated to prepare a meal for them. She loved a great conversation with a good cup of coffee.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, crafts, flowers, listening to music and playing cards. After 62 years on the farm, she moved into the Black River Apts in Greenwood in August of 2016 and created many friendships.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. A life well lived and forever in our hearts.

Irene is lovingly survived by her children: Edward D Bomback of New Berlin, Joanne (Jeff) Binder of Hewitt, Audrey Bomback of Milwaukee, Garry (Elaine) Bomback of Necedah. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Erica (Jeremy) Hischke, Derek (Kylee) Binder, Cassie (Luke) Vandenberg; and great-grandchild, Roland Vandenberg.

Also, step-grandchildren: Jenny (Joe) Fountain and Scott Grant; step-great-grandchildren: Samantha, Becky, Devin, Abigail and Dane; her sisters: Ruth Stroud (Chuck Horvat), Dorothy Miller and Shirley (Ron) Schardt; nieces and nephews.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents: Benhart and Helen Severson; her husband, Edward; as well as siblings: Robert Severson, Bernard Severson, Darlene Trunkel, Rosella Dergance; daughter-in-law, Carol Bomback; grandchild, Chad Bomback; and niece Donna Trunkel.
