Jack was born November 26, 1924, in Lakeview, South Dakota, the son of Johannes (Jon) and Anna (Stratsma) Koopman. On May 1, 1947, he married his sweetheart, Janet, in Chicago, IL. They lived and farmed in Elkhorn, WI, for 30 years and moved to Auburndale in 1971 and continued to farm. They built a house in 1976 across from the farm and he lived there until his last three years.
He was an Awana leader for over 20 years, volunteered at Crescent Lake Bible Camp in Rhinelander, and Rural Bible Crusade Camps throughout WI. He served many times as Deacon on the Board at Christian Reform Church in Delavan and Vesper, WI, and also, at Calvary Bible Church in Marshfield, WI, where he was a member until the Lord took him home. Together with his wife, Janet, they opened up their home to over 30 foster children. Jack loved FARMING, restoring tractors, just sitting around with family and friends talking about the GOOD OLD DAYS and MOWING LAWN.
Jack is survived by his children, Glenn (Judy), Missouri; Robert (Linda), Auburndale; Roy (Betty), Auburndale; Connie (George’s wife), Marshfield; Carol (Harley) Pryne, WI Rapids; Dorothy (Kenneth) VanStedum, WI Rapids; Joseph (Darlene), Auburndale; Kathy (Dixie) Boyer, Arpin; Kimberlee Chaltry, Marshfield; and Caralee (Mark) Jicinsky, Iowa. He is further survived by many, many grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren.
Besides his wife Janet (who passed away March 17, 2011), his parents, Johannes (Jon) and Anna, Jack is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Kay; son, George Herman (Connie’s Husband); a daughter-in-law, Shirley (Glenn’s wife); sons-in-law, David King (Carol’s) and Roger Frischman, Sr. (Kathy’s); three sisters: Tillie Koopman, Lakeview, SD; Marjorie Sterken, Elkhorn, WI; and Tillie Kundert, Lake Geneva, WI.
A special thank you to the staff at the Three Oaks Memory Care Unit for the loving care they gave to dad (Jack) for the past year. Also, ProMedica Hospice for making him comfortable the last week of his time here on earth.
