James Schreiner Obituary

James A. Schreiner, 92, Marshfield, passed away peacefully in his home early Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 4th at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Rev. Keith Kitzhaber and Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Visitation will be held before mass at 9am.

Jim was born on July 13, 1929 in Marshfield to Elmer W. And Christine (Henseler) Schreiner and attended various Marshfield schools. He started working at the age of 15 for his father Elmer and uncle Henry in the plumbing business.

Jim enlisted in the Army in 1952 during the Korean War. Instead of going to Korea, he was sent to Europe where he spent 18 months in the 169th infantry regiment, L Company as a machine gunner outside Nuremberg, Germany in the town called Furth. Once they found out he could type, Jim ended up serving as a supply clerk. He worked under a Sergeant for 18 months then took over as acting Sergeant. In March of 1954 he was honorably discharged from service.

Upon his return he sought out his sweetheart, Jeanette Perko, in the city of Chicago. They were married on August 28th, 1954 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Jim became sole owner of Schreiner's Plumbing and Heating in October 1969. As a plumbing contractor, he was proud to oversee projects such as many local churches and schools including Marshfield Senior High. Jim served as president of Washington Square. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.

During his spare time he spent many hours "puttering" at their northern Wisconsin cabin. The family called it working. When away from work he enjoyed activities with his closest friends, such as snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and golf ball retrieving at their Arizona winter home.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. But the memories he has left us will last a lifetime.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jeanette (Jan), daughters Kathleen (Jim) Christenson of Lakeville, Minnesota and Charlene Stevens of Boulder, Colorado, sons Patrick (Jeanne) Schreiner of Marshfield and Thomas (Jim Rehmann) Schreiner of Corcoran, Minnesota. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren Nicole Bowman, Jennifer McKenna, and Ryan Christenson, Shayla Stevens, Tylan Schreiner, Maggie Schreiner, Kessa Fenske, and 5 great grandchildren Gabriel, Riley, and Addie McKenna and Elianna and Savana Bowman.

He is further survived by sisters Claire McDonald of Denver, Colorado and Barbara Hannon of Aurora, Ohio, and a brother Paul Schreiner of Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Christine, sister Geraldine Domach of Milwaukee, brother Elmer Jr. and infant son Michael.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation.
