James R. "Smooth" Stecker

James R. “Smooth” Stecker, age 75, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 at Three Oaks in Marshfield.

Memorial services for James will be held at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Krueger officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U. S. Army and American Legion Post No. 54. Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday. Following the service at the funeral home, a Celebration of Life will be held at Powers Bluff Park in Arpin at 1:00 p.m.

James was born on January 19, 1948, in Marshfield to Sylvester and Arlene (Stelzl) Stecker. He was a graduate of Auburndale High School in 1966. Shortly after, he entered the U.S. Army and served from 1967-1969 in Vietnam. He later married Lynn Adams, then later divorced.

James lived most of his life in the Marshfield area and worked as a diesel mechanic. He lived for a short time in Denton, Texas. He was a very fun-loving guy and was well known for his story telling.

He is survived by his daughter, Samantha, and two grandsons, Carson, and Kaden. He is further survived by his siblings; Kathleen (Tom) Redmond, Jeffrey, Cheryl (Art) Hill, Judy Miller, Cindy Zickert, Debbie (Gary) Adres, Diane (Tom) Orsi, Tim, Steve (Shelly), and Sheila (Dan) Fjelstad. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Merydene and Lori.
