Jerome Gaier, age 97 , of Marshfield, died on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the House of the Dove Marshfield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 East Veterans Parkway) Marshfield. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Marshfield. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Marshfield American Legion Post 54 will conduct Military Honors.
Jerome was born October 8, 1925 in Colby, Wisconsin, the son of the late Charles and Regina (Bloomer) Gaier, one of 5 children. He grew up on family farms where his love of animals and horses began. He graduated Neillsville High School in 1942. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and joined the 82 airborne division as a paratrooper and special forces unit based in Fort Bragg, NC.
After his years of service, he began working for Northern Auto Supply Co. 1947-1990 in Marshfield as store manager. On August 14, 1948 he married Dolores Storm in Granton and enjoyed 70 years of marriage. Jerome and Dolores often worked weekends at the Bali Hai supper club in Neillsville, owned by brother LaVerne for many years and also the Storm Bar, owned by Carl & Darlene Storm in Granton. Upon retirement he worked at the Marshfield Airport with his brother Harold for several years.
Jerome is survived by 2 daughters; Cindy (Charles) Frankwick and Karen (Tommy Tyler) Gaier-Wallerius, one granddaughter; Tanya (Derek) Gregor, great grandsons; Mason Gessert, Damon Gregor, brothers; Harold and Gerold Gaier, and brother in law; Wendell Storm. He was preceded by siblings: Charlotte (Hake) Gaier and LaVerne Gaier
Jerome enjoyed working outside, taking care of his cars, spending time with family, dogs and horses and travelling to Minneapolis for weekend visits. He had a tremendous work ethic and maintained an active lifestyle all 97 years of his life always making sacrifices to help others and his family. He will be greatly missed.
