Joan Greunke

Joan C. Greunke, age 90, of Marshfield, passed peacefully with family on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Abbotsford Health Care Center in Abbotsford.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, Pastor Andrew Belt will officiate.

Joan was born on Dec. 18, 1931, in Marshfield, to Helmer “Bud” and Alma (Laschinski) Loken. She graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1950, then entered St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. In 1953, she married her life partner, Delbert Greunke of Milladore, Wisconsin.

She continued as an RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital into the early 1970s. In 1954, her only child, Kenneth, was born and she and Del settled in Marshfield. Del was a truck driver and mechanic, and Joan continued in nursing at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

By the mid-1970s, Joan co-owned an antique business in Marshfield (for 10 years), and would go to auctions and flea markets with Del. They continued their mutual hobbies of antiques well into the 2000s.

Joan and Del were lifelong members of Christ Lutheran Church; she often volunteered for many church events, activities, and served on the Altar Guild. She was an avid animal lover and supported local and national Humane Societies and animal protection organizations. She cherished her pets and wildlife.

Joan is survived by her son, Kenneth (Kris) Greunke of Marshfield; and her grandchildren, Ryan (Jenny) Anason, Jacob (Tanya) Reigel, and Andria Derge. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren, Jameson Topness, Noah, Isiah, Benjamin and Abigale Anason.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Greunke; and two daughters, Cheryl and Susan Greunke.

Memorials may be made in Joan’s name to the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.
