John Darrel Raine

John Darrel Raine, 76, of Marshfield, WI passed away peacefully at his home the afternoon of Tuesday, August 15th with his family by his side.  

John was born in Neillsville, WI to Darrel John Raine and Eleanor Jane Raine (Kren). He graduated from the Neillsville High School in 1965 and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served from 1965-1969. His time in the service was spent doing oceanographic research on Grand Turk Island and in Newfoundland.  

He married his wife, Carolyn (Cookie) Boon, on August 24th, 1968 in Christie, WI. They were married an amazing 54 years and blessed with 2 children and 3 grandchildren.   

He worked as a heavy equipment operator until the age of 72, he loved his job and was always incredibly proud of his work.  He’d be happy to explain what was done and would tell stories about previous projects he had completed.  

He also had a passion for trains, listening to music, NASCAR and of course, the Green Bay Packers. He was a quiet, private man but had a huge heart and immense love for his family and friends.  He wasn’t one to show much emotion but those who knew John, knew when he cared. He enjoyed traveling to Pensacola Beach the last few years for a couple months each spring with Cookie.  

John is survived by many loving family members; including his wife, Cookie of Marshfield, and children, Matt (Nikki) Raine of Oconomowoc and Becky (Wade) Guensburg of Marshfield, along with his grandchildren; Harper, Kate and Wesson Guensburg.  

He is further survived by his siblings:  

Diane (Terry) Killham of Munford, TN; James (Georgie) Raine of Neillsville; Ellen (Mike) Artac of Willard; Carol (Gene) Opelt of Neillsville; Candy (Ken) Marg of Neillsville; Joel (Marla) Raine of Neillsville; Emilie (Dan) Miller of Neillsville; Jeff Raine of Neillsville and Brenda (Mark) Wilson of Mosinee. 

And his In Laws: 

Harold (Nancy) Boon of Neillsville; Donald (Carol) Boon of Neillsville; Allan (Beverly) Boon of Neillsville; Lois (Louie) Hagedorn of Neillsville; Melvin (Cindy) Boon of Neillsville; Duane (Brenda) Boon of Greenwood and Robert Boon of Honolulu, HI. 

John is proceeded in death by his parents, Darrel and Eleanor, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lucille and Alfred Boon and his sister-in-law Nalani Boon.   

Those who knew John, know that he wouldn’t want a celebration or party of any kind.  In respect of him, a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
