Josephine B. Mannigel, 100, passed away surrounded by family on May 9, 2021, at Wells Nature View, Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Per her wishes, a graveside ceremony will be held at 11am on Friday, May 14th at Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Josephine was born on March 4, 1921, in the Town of Green Valley, Marathon County, to Otto and Mary (Hamus) Budtke. She attended school through 8th grade in Junction City. She married Clayton H. Doescher on November 1, 1939, in Rozellville. Clayton died on July 17th, 1960. She later married James Mannigel on September 17, 1966.
Josephine was a hard worker. She farmed her entire life. She said she could do everything on the farm except cut the chickens’ heads off. She managed to run the farm widowed with her 6 children ranging in age from 2-19 for 6 years until she married James. She enjoyed cooking and baking, including some German food specialties. We will never forget the Krube. She also made her children’s clothing and could stitch anything you needed. She created many beautiful quilts over the years. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, camping, snowmobiling, sewing, making wooden lawn ornaments, playing cards, polka dancing, Yahtzee and setting puzzles. We learned so much from Josephine. We will miss her sharp mind, quick wit, strong-willed attitude and no mercy kicking our butts in cards.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Jerry (Louise) Doescher, Marvin (Diane) Doescher and Kathy Boyer; son-in-law, Keith Kadinger; and daughter-in-law, Coral Doescher; and 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Clayton Doescher and James Mannigel; a daughter, Marlene Greene-Kadinger; two sons, Doug Doescher and Clayton Jr. Doescher; two sons-in-law, Milton Boyer and Gerald Greene.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Wells Nature View for 7 wonderful years in their facility and Heartland Hospice for all the love and care.
