Joyce Seitz Obituary

Joyce Ann (Roggenbauer) Seitz, age 87 of Stratford, WI, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, while in loving care at House of the Dove in Marshfield.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, 1010 East Veterans Parkway, Marshfield on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. with Deacon Ray Draeger officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joyce was born on June 12, 1934, in Marshfield, WI, to Max and Ann (Weis) Roggenbauer. At the age of 16 she moved to Milwaukee, WI, with her friends Mary Ann Guldan and Mary Ann Ponczoch to look for work. She was initially a waitress and soon after landed a highly sought-after job at Master Lock. It was at a rooftop bar in Milwaukee that Joyce met her future husband and the father of her children, Navy Man Leonard Cordes. Lenny was a boxer for the Naval Team. When Joyce told Lenny, “It’s boxing or me,” Lenny chose Joyce. They were united in marriage on November 26, 1953, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield, WI. The two would go on to raise their 4 children in Marshfield, WI, where Joyce spent her working years until retirement as a Psych Tech. Joyce and Lenny were avid campers and knew how to laugh. Joyce and Lenny divorced in 1985, but Joyce was lucky to find love again with her former classmate, Harold Seitz, and they were married on December 11, 1987. Joyce and Harold loved to travel and ventured all over the country. Joyce’s long held mantra was, “Do it while you can!” Next on her list was visiting Alaska. Joyce and Harold spent most of their weekends at their cabin in Tomahawk, WI, overlooking Gary Lake. Joyce and Harold were the epitome of a sweet couple.

Joyce is remembered by her loved ones and friends as being the most welcoming and kind person. She treated everyone equally and made everyone feel comfortable. She was a true empath. Her kids chuckle at the memory of her answering the phone, “What’s Happenin’?”. She loved spending time with her sons and her grandsons at deer camp each year and would always hold her own. In more recent years she was very entertained and equally as proud of the “Beer-a-mid” that her grandkids built on her dining room table on Christmas Eve. Even until her very last day, Joyce believed that hummingbirds migrated on the wings of geese.

Joyce is survived by her 4 children: James Cordes, Darrell (Sharon) Cordes, Kathy (Jeff) Behrens, and Todd (Barb) Cordes; and her grandchildren Quentin (Nadine), Jesse (Erin), Dane (Mandy), Trevor (Natalie), Tanya (Rodney), Josh, and Linda (Adam). She is also survived by stepchildren: Lori Seitz (Jay), Karla (Mark) Miller, Jodi (John) Rotar, Kim (late Burton) Meyer, Kendra (Kevin) Schmidke, and step-grandchildren Katlyn, Logan, Dustin, Jesse, Amy, Heather, Sean, Shane, Luke, Troy, Paul, Karissa, and Kody. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren. and sisters Arla Genett, Jane Henseler, and Mary Lou (Butch) Duerr. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Leonard Cordes; husband, Harold Seitz; and infant siblings, Max and Sylvia.

Joyce’s family would like to thank the Earth Angels at House of the Dove for their care, love, and compassion while Joyce earned her wings.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Legion Post 54 or House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI.
