The funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Pkwy.) in Marshfield, Wisconsin, with the Rev. Mark Krueger officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Hillside (Gate of Heaven) Cemetery, Marshfield.
Judy was born Oct. 16, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to the late Harold and Virginia (Irving) Doran. She was a graduate of Winnebago High School in Winnebago, Illinois; and attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, graduating in 1963 with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She taught school in Rockford, Illinois, and Fennimore, Wisconsin, until moving to Marshfield, where she taught at Washington Elementary School. She stopped teaching full-time to raise her children, but was an elementary substitute teacher in the Marshfield School District until she began teaching full-time at Saint Mary’s School in Auburndale, Wisconsin.
She married John Walton in 1962, and raised two children, Kimberly (Walton) Eckes of Marshfield, and Steven Walton of Durand, Wisconsin. They divorced in 1985.
Judy married Gene Loos of Marshfield in 1994 in a ceremony in Iowa. They spent many summers in Arizona visiting relatives. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spoiling her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Kim (Cliff) Eckes and Steve Walton; grandchildren, Brandon (Lesley) Duellman, Alex and Zoey Eckes; and great-grandchildren, Haylen, Brantley, and Brayson Duellman; step-children, Kim (Chuck) Schalow, and Brad (Amanda) Loos; and step-grandchildren, Brittany, Megan, and Melissa Schalow, and Benton and Annabelle Loos. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Gene Loos.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Judy’s name to Washington School and/or the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.
The family wishes to thank the staff at both Stoney River Assisted Living and Marshfield Health Services, including a special thank-you to nurse Vicky. Also thank you to St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care of Judy, especially nurse Breanna.
