Marlys Friday Obituary

Marlys Mae Friday, 79, of Marshfield (formerly of Almena, WI), passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 30, 2024, at UW Health in Madison, WI.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1945, to Norbert “Dick” and Ann Friday, and was raised, and helped work on, the family farm in rural Almena. She loved the farm and the animals, especially the cats, kittens, and horses. Living rural, Marlys enjoyed 4-H, winning several ribbons for her projects. She attended Longview Grade School and Barron High School, at which time her health took a turn which changed her life. She was a proud member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Saturday Bible School in Almena. Later years, Marlys would listen to church radio services. She was at peace when the chaplain at the Madison hospital prayed with her in her last days.

Marlys enjoyed bus trips, paint by numbers, puzzles, word search, bingo, collecting bells, yard games, the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers. She talked lots about her trip to the Green Bay Packers Family Nite and having her picture taken with one of the players. She took scrapbooking seriously and has left many memories.

She was a good cook and enjoyed company and serving her famous hotdish; and helped her mom cook, clean, garden, mow lawn and was an all-around helper, including babysitting many children.

Marlys lived in Rice Lake, WI, for a number of years before moving into assisted living in Marshfield, near her sister. She enjoyed spending holidays with her family. The last year of her life, Marlys was in Marshfield Health Services Nursing Home where she had many friends, activities, and bingo – enjoying that to the end.

She had a kind heart, remarkable memory, infectious laugh, along with a twinkle in her eye, and brought joy everywhere she went. Her spunky, caring, loving spirit will be deeply missed.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Norbert “Dick” and Ann; an infant sister, Hazel; and brother-in-law, Larry Morrison.

She is survived by her sister, Jan Morrison of Hewitt, WI; nephew, Mark (Jane); and niece, Tammy; two great-nieces, Kristi (Ryan) and Kollette; and great-nephew, Nathan.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on June 1, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Almena, WI.
