Nate Norberg Obituary

Nate Norberg, 85, of Marshfield, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at House of the Dove. He was born on Jan. 22, 1937, at Mora, Minnesota, the youngest of six children, to Andrew Edward and Nannie (Bodin) Norberg. He attended Lowell Grade School near Mora and graduated in 1955 from Mora High School. In later years, he was a graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin, and was licensed in all lines of insurance, real estate and appraising.

Nate was first employed at Armour & Company in Minneapolis in the clerical field and then in the office of Blaw-Knox Company in Mora. In 1963, he was one of the original employees of the newly- formed People National Bank of Mora until 1969 when he became the managing officer of Citizens State Bank in Clayton, Wisc. In 1978, he became self-employed in the real estate, insurance and appraising field and a contractor for FDIC, USDA and Farm Credit Services until his early retirement in 1990.

In retirement, he became very active in genealogy and also enjoyed gardening and volunteer work. Nate became Mayor of Marshfield in 1999. He, his wife Arlene, and three others traveled to Argentina to set up the Sister City program. Nate held various city offices in later years. He was in the Lions for more than 40 years, served as District Sight Chair and Hearing Chair. He received the Lions’ Melvin Jones Award. Nate was the Chapter Chair of SCORE for several years, loved consulting with new and established business owners. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Marshfield Public Library for 10 years and worked for Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home for 12+ years.

In 1957, he married Elaine Klevgard at Gilmanton, Wisconsin, and they made their home in Mora, Minnesota, and later divorced. In 1984, he married Arlene Steinert Butcher at Las Vegas, Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; five children from his first marriage: Barbara (Darryl) Young of Dallas, Wisc., Randy (Cherie) Norberg of Eau Claire, Wisc., Beckie (Jamie) Sebens of Cumberland, Wisc., Brenda (Barry) Ketz of Clayton, Wisc., Bonita Norberg (Mike Gillis) of Altoona, Wisc.; two step-sons, Jon (Silvana) Butcher of Orlando, Florida, and Scott (Lynn) Butcher of Madison, Wisc.; grandchildren, Brent (Tara) Young, Natasha (Scot) Singerhouse, Brandon (Erica) Norberg, Benjamin (Donielle) Norberg, Carissa Norberg, Jeremy (Sharon) Heyer, Brad (Tiffany) Heyer, Jake Heyer, Krystal Driggs, Tyler Ketz, Abbey (Clay) Dziekan, Cammie (Robert) Bodsberg, Kailey Ketz; step-grandchildren, Kalvin Butcher, Tyler Butcher, Sklyer (Chris Hansen) Fahey, plus Michael Jordan, Storm Fahey; great-grandchildren, Selene, Chloe and Cooper Singerhouse, Riah (Austin) Readman, Stellan and Zanna Young, Michael Kurschinski, Kobe Heyer, Hannah and Kacie Norberg, Riley and Theodore Norberg, Kayden and Caleb Driggs, Savannah Dziekan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special family friend Barbara Marlenga.

In addition to his parents, Nate was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; three brothers, Donald, Wayne and Adriel Norberg; and two sisters, Ethel Moe and Marion Fisvold and their spouses.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sep. 8, 2022, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Pkwy. in Marshfield). Chaplain KristinRae Nelson De Young will officiate. Interment will take place at a later date in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sep. 7th, and again on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
