Philip Nelson, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021, at the Marshfield Health Services. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 29, 1931, to Joseph and Eva Nelson, Swedish immigrants who later became U.S. citizens. In 1940, the family moved to a dairy farm near Pittsville, WI. Philip started school in Chicago and continued his education at the Pittsville Public School in 1949.
Philip was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in the Armor Branch from 1953 to 1955. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and later at Fort Knox, Tennessee. After his military service he returned to the family dairy farm in the town of Cary, Wisconsin. When his father died in 1965, he became the manager and continued farming until his retirement. He and his sister Persis then sold the farm and moved to Marshfield.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Paul. He is survived by his sisters; Phebe Baty (Redlands, California), Persis Nelson (Marshfield, Wisconsin), and Ruth Winters (Bemidji, Minnesota); as well as eleven nieces and nephews, and their families.
