Phyllis Boulet Obituary

Phyllis Claire (Wood) Boulet, age 95, of Marshfield, WI, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2025, in the care of Heartland Hospice, at Stoney River Assisted Living.

A memorial service will be held at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home on Monday, February 24, 11:00 a.m. with a gathering beginning at 10 a.m.

Phyllis was born on August 31, 1929, in Wausau, to Ralph and Ethel (Myers) Wood, and was raised in Marshfield, where she spent her school years. She had many fond memories of her childhood, which she enjoyed sharing with children and grandchildren.

In 1949, Phyl moved to Milwaukee to study cosmetology, but through the welcoming and generous family who housed and fed her in exchange for domestic help, she instead became a dental assistant for a noted endodontist, for whom she adored working. While attending a party with Milwaukee friends, she met a Marquette medical student, Bill Boulet, whom she married in 1952. After his graduation, internships, and residency, they settled in Edgerton, WI, where the family grew from one to six children. The couple immediately fell in love with their town, and they became very active in the community, making many lifelong friends.

In addition to their own six children, in 1958 Phyllis and Bill took in and, for 2 years, raised their niece, Annie, who was born with cerebral palsy and lost her mother moments after her birth. This experience forever deeply impacted Phyllis’ life.

In 1974, they moved to Phyllis’ hometown, where Bill had been recruited to start the Family Medicine Department at the Marshfield Clinic. Besides raising children and volunteering, as kids grew older Phyl began delivering Meals on Wheels, and she loved chatting with recipients. She and Bill were early members of the Marshfield Curling Club, first playing on the sheets in the Pig Barn. They were active curlers on many teams and she volunteered, teaching curling for the high school P.E. classes.

The two things that Phyllis loved most were children and being outdoors, especially in sunshine. As the family grew, an annual highlight was the several week idyll on Glen Lake in northwest Michigan, where family and friends could swim in the clear water and soak up summer sunshine together. Glen Lake has remained a cherished “go to” among their children and grandchildren.

Phyllis’ life has been a model of love and generosity, proving that you can never love too many nor too much.

Phyllis is survived by her six children: Michele (Morrie Brand) Boulet, Greensburg, PA; Lisa (Geoffrey) Kain, Ormond Beach, FL; William Boulet, Marshfield; Nanette (Tom) Dahlquist, Newburgh, IN; Nicole (John) Danzy, Kershaw, SC; and Angelle (Carlos) Romero, Albuquerque, NM.

She is also survived by her brother, Darrell Wood (Fair Grove, MO), as well as by fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur J. Boulet; niece, Ann Hightman; two infant great-grandchildren; and two sisters, E. Elaine Cohen and Arlie Fae Kidd.

The family sincerely thanks our “earthly angels,” Brian, Heather, Ava and Cohen Conrad, for innumerable acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, going back many years.

Those wishing to express their sympathies are encouraged to do so either by making a donation in Phyllis’ name to the Marshfield Civic Band or the Wildwood Park Zoological Society.
