Phyllis Weichelt Obituary

Phyllis “Phuddy” Joanne Weichelt, age 93, passed away on May 21, 2026, after a life devoted to family and faith.

She was born on July 4, 1932, in Neillsville, Wisconsin, she was the eldest of three children of Philip and Marcella Kohl (Johnson). She graduated from Marshfield Senior High School, where she served as a majorette in the marching band, and played the organ for Sunday services at Grace (Zion) Lutheran Church in Nasonville (Fremont). There, she met her husband, Clarence, and their youthful romance soon grew into a loving marriage and family. They were married on December 18, 1948, and raised their five children on the family farm in Granton, WI.

As a child, she attended many schools as her parents moved quite often for jobs during the later depression years. She worked for Superior Gas in Marshfield and Figis during the Christmas seasons. She did clerical work for Clark County Court House and also worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper for Drs Schield and Heineck at the Dental Office in Neillsville, WI.

In 1980, she and her husband purchased Little Bull Falls Tavern in Pittsville, Wisconsin, where they spent 16 happy years building lifelong friendships and making cherished memories with family before retiring in 1996. They later moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Phuddy was known for her strong work ethic, warm sense of humor, and gift for building lasting friendships. She enjoyed music, dancing, lighthearted mischief, and telling a good story. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

She is survived by her sister Janice Grobe of Onalaska, WI, her children, Colleen (Virgil) Jameson of Laona, WI, Kathryn Queen (Michael Wojnowski) of Lake Tomahawk, WI,  Joel (Margaret) Weichelt of Kewanee, WI, Jeffrey (Marjean) Weichelt of Spencer, WI and Philip (Jackie) Weichelt of Granton, WI as well as 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Marcella, her husband Clarence Weichelt, her brother, Russell Kohl, and infant brother Donald Kohl in infancy as well as several in-laws.

Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church 11284 US Hwy 10 Marshfield, WI on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 9:30am to 11am with services to follow.

Phuddy would not want us to mourn her death but rather celebrate her life telling stories with a cold beer at a local tavern.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff at the Clark County Rehabilitation & Living Center and St. Croix Hospice given to our mother in her last months of life. Memorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church Children’s Ministry.
