Ray Poeppel Obituary

Ray M. Poeppel, age 94, passed away August 27, 2024, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home King.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 10th, at 12:00 PM, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Pkwy, Marshfield, Wisconsin) visitation will be held from 10:30 until the time of service at the funeral home.  Committal service to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Veterans Field of Honor.

Ray was born on July 18, 1930, in Marshfield, Wisconsin to Joseph and Catherine (Reiding) Poeppel. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School.  Ray proudly served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the Korean War receiving the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars along with the Combat Infantry Badge.

Ray worked at Rollohome, where he traveled extensively for four years to all 48 states and Canada as a trouble shooter then worked in the cabinet shop, engineering and purchasing departments retiring in 1975.  He also drove school bus for 13 years.  In 1963 Ray started the Park View Pet Motel which he owned and operated for almost 60 years.  He was a life member of both the VFW and American Legion, and past commander of the VFW, where he spent many years of service in the VFW firing squad and marching unit. He was a past Seam Squirrel of the Military Order of Cooties Pup Tent 13.  Ray’s hobbies included traveling, woodworking, supervising job sites on his scooter, mowing lawn and baseball.

Ray is survived by his daughters Carla (Ron) Schuler, and Kathy (Rob) Carlon, sister Pat (Jim) Reckner along with 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchild.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Catherine Poeppel, bothers Herman and Joseph, sisters Roberta VanderMay, Marianne Markee and Agnes Schultz, sons Randall and Russell and grandchild Ashton Curtin.
