Richard Joseph Kopper, age 79, of Marshfield, passed away May 29, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield after a brief illness. A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
He was born on March 18, 1945, in Pierre, South Dakota. His family moved to a Medford, WI, area farm when he was six. Richard attended Medford Schools and then joined the National Guard of which he was a proud member for twenty years. In 1967, he married Nancy Cannon and they had three daughters: Tammy (John) Fischer, Amy Kopper and Malinda (Eric) Kline. Richard and Nancy later divorced. He married Leta Hansen Lucas and they enjoyed forty years together until his passing.
Through the years, Richard worked as a truck driver, carpenter, and later retired from Wood County Highway Department after eighteen years in 2005. He was a member of the Marshfield Police Auxiliary for several years, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing Canasta.
Richard is survived by his wife: Leta; children: Tammy (John) Fischer, Amy Kopper and Malinda (Eric) Kline; a stepson: Jeff Lucas; a stepdaughter: Shannon Lucas; as well as a brother and a sister. He is further survived by his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and his very loving beagle, “Puddin.”
