Richard "Dick" George Scherer

Richard (Dick) George Scherer, age 82, of Marshfield, passed away early Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Marshfield Health Systems hospital in Marshfield.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, November 10, 2023 at Christ The King, Catholic Church (306 S LaSalle Street) in Spencer. Visitation will be held 1-1/2 hours prior to service on Friday at 9:00 AM. 

Dick was born March 25, 1941, the son of George and Carol (Asplin) Scherer in Greenwood WI. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1959.  On December 28, 1963, Dick was united in marriage to the love of his life Patricia Ellen Langreck at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood.

Dick Served his country in the Army from 1960 to 1963 stationed in Germany after which he and Pat lived and worked in the Greenwood area raising their 5 sons.  Dick was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwood for many years. He worked for the Co-op and Grassland as a mechanic, service manager and truck driver. Dick retired from the Co-op in 2003. He enjoyed and loved his entire family and dedicated most of his time to them. He and Pat moved from Greenwood in 2019 to Spencer and in 2022 they moved to Marshfield.

In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball, softball, and bowling. He was an avid reader of westerns and sports fan. He especially enjoyed all his grandchildren attending as many of the events as he could. Those that knew Dick best will miss his sense of humor, smiling face, love of card playing Sheepshead and Cribbage. He always helped whoever asked and never asked or expected anything in return.

Dick is lovingly survived by Wife Pat: 5 sons, Tom and Andrea (Briski) Scherer, Terry and Cindy (Duval) Scherer, Tim Scherer, Dave and Becky(Rueth) Scherer, Dean and Michele(Teter) Scherer; 2 sisters, Nancy Sankey, Susan(Chet) Turnquist: 1 brother Roger(Nicole) Scherer  He is further survived by 10 grandchildren: McKayla, Shane, Lacey, Kimberly, Tori, Chris, Jared, Kevin, Brody and Leah. He will truly be missed.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents: George and Carol; as well as grandson Anthony Scherer: Brother-in-Law Irv Sankey.
