Rodney Scott Kattre

On Monday, April 5th, 2021, the Kattre family lost an irreplaceable husband, father, “Papa”.  Rodney Scott Kattre, 70, lost his life at Marshfield Medical Center Hospital after suffering severe complications during mitral valve replacement surgery.

Born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, on May 18th, 1950, to Alice (Kalepp) and Gilbert Kattre, Rod graduated from Abbotsford High School and went on to receive an Associate’s degree from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, in Green Bay, WI.   On March 25th, 1978, Rod married Marsha Genrich, a woman he deeply loved and loved to kid.  Together they were blessed with two daughters, Robin and Nicole and five grandchildren, Bella, Beau, Benjamin, Sofia, and Leonardo.

Known best as “Hot Rod” to all who loved him, he worked much of his career in Microbiology at the Marshfield Clinic, where he found the most joy in entertaining his co-workers.  From custodial staff to peers to leadership – Rod was a friend to all.  When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed tending to his flower gardens, spending time on the lake, visiting the casinos, shooting pool, cheering for the Cubbies, watching the stock market, and playing with his grandchildren - he was the biggest kid of all.  Right or wrong, Rod loved to eat!  From his morning breakfast routine at The Patio Restaurant (later Perkins) to a lunch stop at “Chips” to his late-night frozen pizzas – eating was an experience.  Best of all, he loved to share his pizza and popcorn with Tinker, Toby and Ellie, 3 of his favorite furry companions.

Known by his grandchildren as the “Funniest Papa Ever”, Rod made everyone laugh.  His exaggerated stories, ridiculous costumes, unmatched sense of humor and well-known gag gifts (especially for his nephews), made everyone smile.  And on the days that laughter was difficult, he’d simply say, “Here come the cheeks!”  It was impossible to keep a straight face with Rod in the room.

Surviving family members include his wife Marsha Kattre of Marshfield; his daughters Robin Boudreau (Dr. Ryan Boudreau) and their children Bella and Benjamin of Iowa City, IA; Nicole Moreno (Dr. Andres Moreno) and their children Sofia and Leonardo of Marshfield, WI; his brothers Clayton (Julie) Kattre of Abbotsford; Gil Kattre of Abbotsford; three Kattre nephews: Tyler (Amy) Kattre of Oregon, WI, Tanner (Katie) Kattre of Brookfield, WI, and Trevor (Jackie) Kattre of Belmont, WI; brothers-in-law Jim (Karen) Genrich of Green Bay, WI; Dr. Steve Genrich of Phoenix, AZ; former sister-in-laws Cheryl Kattre of Spencer, WI and Jackie Genrich of Phoeniz, AZ; nieces and nephews Megan Popkey of Green Bay, WI; Eric (Emily) Genrich of Green Bay; Mallory Genrich of Atlanta, GA; Chris (Michelle) Genrich of Phoenix, AZ, and Lindsay (Mike) Hyzer of Phoenix, AX.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Alice Kattre and his grandson, Beau Boudreau.

A celebration of life will be planned for late spring – outdoors, exactly where Rod loved to be, with great friends + family, good food and cold Pepsi.  Date/Location to follow.
