Roger Stoflet Obituary

Roger R. Stoflet, 74, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 18, 2023, in Auburndale, Wisconsin. He was doing what he loved, taking off the family farm harvest. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1010 E. Veterans Parkway, Marshfield, WI, with Pastor Mark Lundgren officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Arpin Cemetery, Arpin, WI, at a later date. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, North East, MD, at a later date.

Roger was born July 16, 1949, the son of Roger F. Stoflet and Clara (Grimm) Stoflet in Marshfield, WI. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor’s degree from UW-River Falls in 1971. Roger retired in 2012 after 36 years of Federal Civilian Service. He started as a U.S. grain inspector in Omaha, NE, and in New Orleans, LA. He then took a position as an agronomist at Savanna Army Depot Activity in Savanna, IL. There, his family lived for 14 years making wonderful lifelong friends. In 1991, he transferred to continue as an agronomist at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, where he retired. After retirement, he drove truck and other jobs for Colora Orchards in Maryland, where he learned another farming passion, raising apples and peaches. He truly loved that job. After the orchard closed, he was always available to help out local farmers. He loved being around others and making wine, helping process chickens for friends and was always available to repair anything for friends and neighbors. Every spring and fall he was in Wisconsin planting and harvesting the beans and corn from the Stoflet family farm. He did this all through his life.

On May 30, 1975, he married Linda (Burkey) Stoflet at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton, WI. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in North East, MD. He held many positions in this small, wonderful church. He especially enjoyed sharing his homemade wine, blackberry jam, and pickled gizzards. Farming flowed through his veins as well as working on tractors and any vehicle that had an engine.

Roger is lovingly survived by his wife, Linda; and his three boys: Trevor (Maren), grandchildren, Landon and Lauren, Kansas City, MO; Michael, North East, MD; and Robert, North East, MD. He is further survived by sisters, Vicki Denk, Mondovi, WI; Janice (Tom) Wilda, Onalaska, WI; Joyce (Larry) Lichter, Brookfield, WI; Cynthia Hardy (friend Larry Scholze), Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Linda Christenson, Chanhassen, MN; and Marilyn (Volker) Wingerath, Heidelberg, Germany; sister-in-law, Barbara (Richard) Givler, Cataract, WI; as well as numerous nephews and nieces; special lifelong friends, Steve Justman and Dave Guldan; beloved pups, Reesie and Snickers.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Clara Stoflet; son, Travis Stoflet; sister, Yvonne Stoflet; and brothers, Daniel and Randy Stoflet; brothers-in-law, Glen Denk, Reed Hardy and Dale Guldan.
