Ronald Willard Behling, 71, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully and entered eternal life on Friday, May 30, 2025. He was the second son born of Willard and Geraldine Behling of Marshfield, on June 25, 1953. Ron had fought a battle with progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for over 40 years that slowly took away his mobility and, finally, his life.
Ron graduated from Marshfield High School in 1971 and went on to graduate from North Central Technical College in Wausau, Wisconsin, with a degree in Residential Design. He was a general contractor and built houses including his own house in Bakerville, WI. He married Susan Straub in 1977 and was blessed with two girls, Alissa and Trina. Ron and Susan later divorced in 1999.
Prior to the progression of his MS, he loved to go mule deer and antelope hunting in the western states with his Uncle Lawrence. He also loved deer hunting with his brother, Mike, and Uncle in Prey, WI. When he was not hunting out west or in Prey, you could find him going to the cabin and spending time on Soo Lake fishing and hunting.
Ron’s last hunt was a handicap hunt in Clark County, WI, with his brother, Mike, and the best part was socializing afterward with all the other hunters. Anyone who would visit with Ron would be greeted by the mounted deer heads and fish that adorned his room’s walls. Ron talked a lot about fishing these past years, as he always hoped to be able to fish once again. Now, Ron has officially “Gone fishing with the Master.”
Ron’s love of the Green Bay Packers remained throughout his life. He was most proud of and loved picking on his grandson, Hunter (age 10), whose parents, Alissa and Erik, live near the Minnesota border. Ron loved bugging Hunter about how bad the Minnesota Vikings were compared to the Packers. Ron was also getting to know his other young grandson, George (age 3), whose parents, Trina and Nolan, live in Arizona. It brought a huge smile to Ron to hold George and to have another grandson.
Ron’s enthusiasm for living life never left him, no matter how difficult his daily life became. Ron never complained in 40 years with his MS, he always kept his witty sense of humor and great attitude. The nursing staff at Christian Community Homes where he lived out his final years always wanted Ron on their rotation, for he became their favorite patient. He achieved this distinction by making them laugh daily, as well as picking on them—always with a smile on his face—no matter how badly his day might have been going.
Ron is survived by daughters, Alissa (Erik Carlson), and Trina (Nolan McGraw); brothers, David (Susan), Michael (Lisa), Daniel (Teresa); sister, Linda (Stephen) Raap; sister-in-law, Janice; grandsons, Hunter and George; and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents (Willard and Geraldine); and by his older brother, Raymond.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 13th 11:00am-3:00pm at Wildwood Park Pavilion #2 in Marshfield.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Christian Community Homes in Osceola, WI, and to Moments Hospice for their dedication and compassionate care of Ron.
