Troy Austin Obituary

Troy Austin, age 92, died Friday, March 13th, 2026, at North Shore surrounded by his loved ones in Marshfield, Wisconsin.  Troy was born on the 8th of May 1933 to Roscoe and Elma Austin of Harrisburg, Arkansas.  He spent most of his adult life residing in Owen, Abbotsford, and Marshfield, Wisconsin.  To put it best, Troy was a “Man among other Men” and was truly one of the most incredible people you would ever meet.

Troy is survived by his wife, Alfreida Austin (Abbotsford), four children: Troy “Bob” Austin (Inge) (Tomahawk), Cindy Austin (Marshfield), John Austin (Tammy) (Abbotsford), and Donna Austin (Abbotsford).  He is also survived by his brothers Bobby Jean and Timmy Joe and his sister Betsy Lee all residing in Harrisburg, AR.   He is further survived by six grandchildren Micheal Seefeld (Portage), Lonnie Yego (Savage), Tara Jaramillo (Weston), Amanda Seubert (Marshfield), Vaughan Austin (Abbotsford), Shane Austin (Weston) and 12 great grandchildren.

Troy is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned numerous medals, including the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and the United Nations Service Meal Korea.  He was also a very proud member of the United States Navy and becoming a “Golden Shellback” for accomplishing the rare feat of crossing the Equator and the International Date Line simultaneously during a sea voyage.  Troy spent most of his time in the service on the USS Kearsarge as a Gunners Mate.  He was 18 when he decided to join the Navy with two of his friends.  Troy and his two friends hitch hiked all the way to Jonesboro, Arkansas to the Recruiters Office to enlist and later finished his physical in Little Rock, AR.  Shortly thereafter he took a bus from his hometown to San Diego, CA to complete his basic training.   Upon completion of Basic Training, he took a bus to Bremerton, WA and boarded his new home the USS Kearsarge “#33”.  It was his home for the next 3 years and 8 months along with 2,900 other Sailors.  Troy learned a lot about life and with everything he learned, he always said, “that he loved his country and would do it all over again!”   Troy was a professional Truck Driver and drove for Meig’s Trucking for 35 years starting in 1971.  He was very proud of receiving his Safe Driver Award and drove for other companies before his retirement in 2008.

Troy enjoyed driving semi tractor trailer, fishing, watching Country Western movies, and spending time with his family. He was an active member of VFW Post #6003 in Oxford, WI.  Troy was an extremely hard-working man, honest, and a true family man that did everything possible to improve the lives of his family members while never doing anything for himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Elma, his Brother-in-Law Doyle Davis, and Shiela Austin his Sister-in-Law.

A celebration of life and military honors will be given on Troy’s Birthday on 8 May 2026 in the city of Marshfield, details to follow on a later date.  Troy’s family would like to thank Deb Andres and the entire staff at North Shore and Heartland Hospice for making his final journey filled with love and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to VFW Post 6003 in Oxford, Wisconsin.
