Velda Verjean (Kiddoo) Salzwedel of Chili, Wisconsin, passed away quietly on December 1 at Wells Nature View on Adams Street in Marshfield, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 13, at Hansen Schilling Funeral Home; visitation from 9am-11am, with service starting at 11am.
Velda was born February 3, 1936 to Ramona Kiddoo in the Town of Rock. She was married to the love of her life, Elroy, who preceded her in death. Velda worked as a Nursing Assistant for more than 32 years at the Marshfield Convalescent Center, and also she and Elroy ran a small dairy farm in the Town of Lynn.
Velda was an amazing caregiver to elderly, and she was a wonderful mother.
Together, Velda and Elroy raised 10 children: Roger, Linda Scheel, Sandy (Dave) Ellis, Debbie Rosandich, Larry (Jackie), Susan (Jeff) Ludwig, Jalaine (Steve) Specht, Robin (Duane) Zinthefer, Will (Jenny), and Jeff (Melissa). And, as Velda would say, her 7th daughter, Donna Greisbach, who she loved like family. Grandma V V was blessed with 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren, and 14 step-grandchildren.
Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy, her son, Roger, daughter, Sandy, son-in-law, James Scheel, grandchildren Nicole, Jamie, and Troy, her mother, Ramona, and her best friend, Spirit (her dog)… the love she had for him was priceless!
Velda was an amazing mother and grandma. As a young girl she loved raising her sheep, showing them at the local fair, and she even received a blue ribbon! She had a special talent for sewing – she was at her happiest sitting at her sewing machine for hours. She made many hooded towels for her new grandchildren, pillows with handles, aprons, plastic bag holders, and corn burners. Velda loved making apple pies – making at least 10 at a time and handing them out when visited by her children or grandchildren. Velda also loved watching and feeding her birds daily.
Velda always liked to write letters to special people in her life, smiling ear-to-ear when she received one back. A letter from Velda was another precious memory to have!
The family would like to thank the staff at Wells Nature View, and also Heartland Hospice for the love and care you showed to Velda.
Velda’s children and grandchildren feel very blessed to have had this wonderful mother and grandma in their lives.
Momma…
Remembering all the yesterdays, the special growing years
Spent with friends and family, and shared with smiles and tears…
Remembering all the yesterdays, and, knowing as we do,
The love in those sweet memories is all wrapped up in you.
