Obituary

Vernon Albert Kempf, age 90, of Auburndale, passed away early Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 10, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 10571 George Ave in Auburndale. Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM on July 10, 2023. Burial will take place at Arpin Cemetery in the Town of Arpin.

Vernon was born September 22, 1932, the son of Albert and Leona (Hartfiel) Kempf at home in Bloomfield, Waushara County. He attended first grade at Tin School in West Bloomfield and second through eighth grade at North Arpin School in Arpin. On October, 18, 1952, Vernon was united in marriage to the love of his life Delores Ann Becker at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Auburndale.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and served as an Elder, Trustee, President, Board of Education and Advisor for building of the new church. He maintained the inside of the church as well as the outside for many years. Vernon was a member of the Auburndale Lions Club, served as President and other positions. He was a Volunteer Firefighter for 28 years for the Auburndale Fire Department and held the position as a Chief Engineer and trainer. He was a farmer until he moved to Auburndale in 1973. He then worked at Pittsville Homes and the Village of Auburndale until his retirement. He enjoyed coaching softball leagues, bowling and worked many hours for the Auburndale Music Fest.

He enjoyed going up north to their camper and fishing with his family on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Vernon also enjoyed small game, turkey, and deer hunting at the family cabin by Winter, Wisconsin. Vernon and Delores went to Branson, Missouri for their 50th Anniversary.

He loved when his family got together and especially enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at sporting and musical events.

Vernon is survived by his children: Diane Ellenbecker of Auburndale, Dennis (Debra A.) Kempf, Leonel (Debra L.) Kempf, of Arpin, Randy (Cathy) Kempf of Auburndale, Donavon (Mary) Kempf of Arpin, Darryl Kempf of Auburndale; 12 grandchildren, Sarah (Jody) Pongratz, Amy (Mark) Wojciechowski, Lisa (Travis) Engelberth, Laura Ellenbecker, Danielle Kempf, Dustin (Ashley) Kempf, Jennifer Kempf, Elizabeth Chavez (Zach Patri), Travis (Amanda) Kempf, Kimberly (Zach) Fuller, Matthew Kempf and Ariel (Mike) Mrotek. He was blessed to have 10 great grandchildren: Michael and Makayla Pongratz, Antonio Chavez, Sophia and Olivia Engelberth, Ayla and Macy Kempf, Aiden Kempf, Croix and Brooke Fuller. He is further survived by his brother Alroy (Elaine) Kempf of Marshfield and two nieces Kathy (Gary) Carlson and Judy (Sam) Guralski.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Delores, a son LaVerne, his parents: Albert and Leona Kempf, and son-in-law Richard Ellenbecker, father and mother-in-law Emery and Loretta Becker.
