Wanda M. Magee passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at Marshfield Health Services. She was born October 3, 1938, to Carl and Marian (Johnson) Elmhorst in Granton, WI.
After graduating high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she received a Bachelor’s and a Master’s in Education.
On August 9, 1965, Wanda married Carl J. Magee in Madison, Wisconsin. Together they had several international experiences for Carl’s work in electrical engineering. They lived in Mexico, South America and Italy and then settled in Virginia for many years. Wanda always delighted in finding gifts for others wherever she lived – wrapped beautifully and shipped to family and friends for their enjoyment.
Wanda was a dedicated teacher to hundreds of children over her 40 plus years as an early elementary teacher. Her classroom was always decorated for every holiday plus she happily taught children to observe and care for a pet by having one in her classroom. One of her cutest classroom “residents” was an adorable guinea pig she named “Pee Wee”. Wanda and Carl also enjoyed numerous dogs at home including a dalmatian, several beagles and malamutes -- theirs was a pet-friendly home! Wanda’s professional life was completed at Seaford Elementary near their home in Poquoson, Virginia when she retired in July 2004.
After Carl passed away in 2012, Wanda returned to Wisconsin to be nearer to family. In addition to Carl, she was predeceased by her parents, her sister-in-law Laurie Elmhorst and brother-in-law and sister-in law Larry and Verna Magee.
She is survived by her brothers, Gary (Kris) Elmhorst and Darrell Elmhorst and a number of nieces and nephews. She also has dear friends from Virginia, Mrs. Pat Arrington, Jim and Sharon Beach and Mrs. Kathy Hahn in Wisconsin.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda’s memory can be made to York County Schools --Seaford Elementary, 1105 Seaford Rd, Seaford, VA 23696 or a literacy organization of your choice.
