William “Bill” Warner Berry, age 79, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, at House of the Dove in Marshfield.
Bill was born September 10, 1946, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, the son of Warner and Marcella (Thums) Berry. He attended Loyal Elementary School and graduated from Loyal High School in 1964. He graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in English and Speech. He later earned a master’s degree in English from UW-Stevens Point and a master’s degree in secondary school administration from UW-Superior.
Bill married his high school sweetheart, Janet (Jan) Loos on September 9, 1967, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. They recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.
Bill followed in his father’s footsteps in 1968 when he began his career as a teacher, coach, mentor, and administrator at Marshfield Senior High School where he was proud to devote his entire 34-year career. He began teaching English and Speech, and he was also the assistant baseball coach. In 1978 Bill was given the opportunity to mentor at-risk students by becoming the director of the “VOICE” Program (Vocational Orientation In Career Education) at the high school as well as designing the master schedule for all students and staff. He completed his career at Marshfield High School upon his retirement in 2002 after serving 14 years as Assistant Principal.
Bill received many awards and recognitions throughout his career such as Marshfield Area Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator, John Philip Sousa Honorary Community Service, Kohl Educational Foundation Achievement, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Teacher of the Year, and Marshfield School District Teacher of the Year.
Bill’s community involvement included officiating high school football and basketball, coaching Little League baseball, and being a member of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Jan, sister Ann (Bruce) Bremer; sons Jason (Loralei) Berry of Marshfield, David (Laurie) Berry of Madison, WI; and grandchildren Connor Berry, Cameron Berry, and Cooper Berry.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Pkwy Marshfield, WI). Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Mark Krueger will officiate.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and educator. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, wit, and fun-loving personality.
