Yngve Johansson Obituary

Yngve Johansson, age 97 ½ , of  Marshfield/Lindsey, passed away early Sunday, August  14, 2022 at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield surrounded by family. A funeral service is to be held 10:30 AM Saturday, August 27, 2022 with visitation at 9:30 AM until the time of services all at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E. Veterans Parkway) Marshfield.

Yngve was born January 19, 1925 the son of Johann and Ida Johannesson in Sweden. He was the eighth child born of thirteen children. He said he was born in a snowbank with skis on and in the winter they had to walk to school, uphill, both ways and sharing a pair of boots with his siblings. He had a sense of humor and it showed to his last day.

Yngve had a desire to always be learning. Growing up during the depression he yearned to learn how to grow better crops and study animal husbandry. After World War II and after his Swedish military service concluded, he graduated from the Institute of Animal Breeding and then the Institute of Animal Agronomy in Skene Sweden. In his later years you could find him watching the history channel or reading a book on history.

In 1951, he accepted an invitation from his sister Hannah to come to America. He arrived in New York on December 3, 1952, then rode by train to Chicago. His first job was a warehouse manager at Lake-Cook Farm Supply Co-op then he started and ran his own egg delivery business in Chicago until he sold.

In 1953,Yngve met Roberta (Swanson), who would become his wife, at a Swedish club in Johnsonville, a neighborhood in Chicago. On June 5th, 1954 they were married. Dad was very nervous at his wedding, he said the Pastor told me, “Yngve, just repeat what I say” and Dad replied, “but I’m not sure what you’re saying and it sounds very serious” He must have taken those vows seriously because they just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Well done dad.

Shortly after they married, they moved about 100 miles west of Chicago to a property they rented and began farming and raising their family (6 children while there) near Dixon Illinois. While there, Yngve received a notary for highest milk production in Lee County, which he was quite proud of. He was active with the 4-H and church.

In 1971, they bought a farm and moved the family to the Nasonville area where they made a living, developed friendships and raised their family(added one more in 1976)..

After retiring from farming, Yngve secured his real estate broker license and did that for a few years. Later he decided to drive a school bus for the Marshfield school district until he FINALLY retired, but not before recording, you guessed it, perfect attendance for 7 straight years. He never called in sick!

Our parents enjoyed camping and dad really liked fishing-it was time to relax and we think he did!, They  were active members of the Sons of Norway and Grace Lutheran Church in Nasonville.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, and his brothers Hugo and Alan. He is also survived by his 7 children: David (Gini) Johansson, Rolf (Cheryl) Johansson, Curtis (Debbie) Johansson, Randy (Lisa) Johansson, Chris (Jenny Powers) Johansson, Barb (Dean) Hetzel, and Nils (Lara) Johansson; 16 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to express their sympathy, add pictures or fun stories, are encouraged to do so on the website. Now that he has perfect vision, he will be reading them and please make sure to use proper punctuation too! Dad checks!

In lieu of flowers, they have asked that any gifts be given to Grace Lutheran Church or the Sons of Norway.
